No Reserve Charity Lot - Belgrove Wholly Shit Rye Whisky Bottled 2023 Signed Bottle

A special release of rye whisky from the Belgrove distillery in Tasmania The "Wholly Shit" was crafted by smoking rye grains with sheep dung from the Belgrove farm. Bottled at 45% Abv in 2023, this lot is a signed bottle.

This lot has kindly been donated by Belgrove Distillery for May's featured charity auction, which supports Cystic Fibrosis Tasmania.

The charity lots were organized by John Halton from Transportation Whiskey, with the full hammer price and a 10% buyer's premium being donated to Cystic Fibrosis Tasmania. Cystic Fibrosis Tasmania is a not-for-profit organization that receives no government funding and provides essential services for those impacted by CF. Some of these services include the provision of physiotherapy equipment used every day by individuals with CF to help keep their lungs healthy, financial subsidies for exercise equipment, psychology, counseling, and more.

What is Cystic Fibrosis?
Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic condition, with 1 in 25 Australians carrying the CF gene. It is a life-limiting condition that impacts many parts of the body, including the lungs, pancreas, sinuses, liver, bones, and more. Individuals with CF may have to take 80+ tablets a day, do 2-5 hours of daily physiotherapy, attend multiple hospital appointments, and stay in the hospital for treatment frequently.

Why are we doing this?
John's wife's cousin, Charlotte, is 13 and lives with Cystic Fibrosis. She has been very lucky to start a new medication recently called Trikafta, which provides significant hope (and more evidence being shared as we speak) of a longer life than the short 37 years predicted when she was born. But Trikafta isn't a cure, and at this stage, Charlotte still requires lots of things to maintain a healthy baseline and keep her out of the hospital. She does lung physiotherapy twice a day, takes over 20 tablets per day, including almost every time she eats - even just for a piece of chocolate!

Challenge history
Charlotte has been participating in 65 Roses/65 for CF Challenges for years. Her challenges have included meeting 65 dogs, sliding down 65 different slides, completing a lap of 65 different ovals, and making 65 different scrunchies during lockdown, plus more. In 2021, Charlotte created a team challenge with some of her friends at She Shreds Australia who challenged themselves to complete 650 ollies each throughout the month. Last year, a group of 7 She Shredders participated in a skate-a-thon where they skateboarded for 650 minutes (that's almost 11 hours!) on a Sunday with just 6 x 5-minute breaks. It was a very impressive (exhausting!) effort and raised over $12,700 for CF Tas. Check out this year's 65 Roses challenge on their Facebook page, Shredding for CFT.
