Redlands/Old Kempton
A historic distillery in the old town of Kempton in Tasmania, Old Kempton distillery is nestled in a beautiful old mansion built in 1840. The brand began life as the Redlands Estate distillery in 2008 and through the teachings of the legendary Bill Lark, was able to develop a single malt whisky from paddock to bottle. In 2015 they made the move to the town of Kempton and so also came the name and rebrand.
Old Kempton produces a double distilled new make spirit that sees maturation in a variety of casks including bourbon, sherry, port and even stout casks. They have expanded their range to include a number of award winning gins as well as worked closely with the independent bottler Heartwood to create OKD spirit matured in exotic casks like muscat and tokay. Old Kempton has been a staple in the Tasmanian whisky industry for over a decade and has proven time and time again that Tasmania makes some of the world’s finest whisky.
Trapper’s Hut
The first Tasmanian independent bottler, Trapper's Hut began life in 2008 and focused exclusively on single cask expressions of American oak matured 'HH' cask Sullivans Cove whisky. The Trapper's Hut business was sold in 2014 by Bruny Island House of Whisky and released a number of HH Sullivans Cove casks shortly after. Unfortunately as Sullivans Cove was gradually becoming more and more popular, fewer and fewer HH casks were becoming available to independent bottlers. This led Trapper's Hut to diversify their cask bottlings and have featured distilleries such as Redlands, Launceston and Lark to name a few.
