Glenallachie 2005 15 Years Old Single Sherry Butt #901026
A 2005 vintage of Glenallachie aged for 54 years in a single sherry butt and bottled at cask strength.
Glenallachie
A relatively modern distillery that has seen a huge resurgence in recent years amid the legendary Billy Walker’s lead. Founded in 1967 by Scottish & Newcastle Breweries in the town of Aberlour, Glenallachie changed hands a number of times before being purchased by Billy Walker in 2017. Prior to the 2017 acquisition the distillery had only released a small number of core bottlings and was a relatively quiet producer, with the vast majority of the 4 million litre/year production utilised in blends.
In 2018 the distillery released its first core range line and in 2019 opened to the public for the first time in 50 years. The core range consists of a 10 year old cask strength, released in batches, along with a 12,15 and 18 year old. A number of limited editions have been released with a 21 year old, 30 year old and a large number of wine cask finished bottlings. Billy Walker has brought a huge amount of experience from his years at Glendronach and Benriach to Glenglassaugh, reinventing the older and tired stocks that were originally created purely for blenders. A testament to his exceptional quality blending and finishing skills, the Glenallachie 10 year old cask strength batch 4 won the world’s best single malt in 2021.
