Cradle Mountain

Originally started to test the viability of a new barley strain called "Franklin", the small concern distillery has been closed since 1997. After bringing their initial whisky runs to Cadenhead's in Scotland, the independent bottler greatly enjoyed the product produced. However, the distillery did not have sufficient funds to maintain operation and produce a regular supply of whisky. Cadenhead's decided the whisky was so unique that they would provide a $25k investment and commission the distillery to produce a number of batches for them to bottle. As it closed in 1997 very little of the small concern distillery's spirit has been publicly available.

The Cradle Mountain name lives on however, when in 2015 Joe Lahra purchased the entire business including all remaining stock. In 2018 the brand relocated to a newly built distillery in the Tamar Valley, utilising a water source from Cradle Mountain. In 2019 spirit flowed from the new stills and legacy stock has been released slowly.
